Epitaph translation:
On the Shabbat of [the weekly Torah reading of] Bereshit, 29 Tishrei, on the eve of Rosh Hodesh Marheshvan, 5554 [=October 5, 1793], the third hour
of the afternoon, the crown fell
from the head of the leader, our teacher and master, Rabbi Dovber
Birkenthal, may his light [still] shine, that is, his wife
the benevolent and intelligent Mrs. Leah
the daughter of the our scholarly teacher, Yehoshua, may the memory of the righteous be a blessing
after she built her house through righteousness
for 52 years, as a woman of valor
and virtue; she opened her hand to the poor;
she extended her hand to the needy, [with] enough for his needs
and with different medicines she restored the lives
of the sick; well-known guests
always found rest for their spirit
with the foods of the deputies; dining at
her table were great and honored ministers;
and because of her, all the members of her community were also, mainly, treated
well during her lifetime of 71 years,
whereupon she left us, the living; may her soul be bound in the bonds of life
